What is the Volleython?
Simply put, it is an all day youth volleyball tournament designed to promote evangelism, fellowship, and just plain fun. We start the day with registration and an organizational meeting. The teams are divided by drawing in advance into 8 leagues. Each team is given their schedule for the first part of the day. We could put as many as 30 courts in the Hononegah Dome, but right now we will probably only need 18. That means that we can have 36 teams playing at the same time. We will add more courts as the need arises. The schedule is run by a recording on the PA system that starts and stops the timed rounds. Marching band music is played between the games to keep the energy high. Each league plays a round-robin tournament Within their league. Each team plays at least 5 games. At the end of the round-robin, the seeding is established and this year, all teams will advance to the playoffs. During the time before the playoffs there will be a message by our speaker for the day, Evangelist Tom Ferrell.
In the playoffs the teams play a single elimination tournament. During that 2 hours many other things will be
taking place. There will be individual competitions. They will include Spiking competition, Bump, Set competition,
and Serving competition. There will be trophies for each competition champion. There will also be Illinois Vs.
Wisconsin games and Teen Vs. Sponsor games. In the cafeteria there will be fun group games. The playoffs themselves
will be very watchable and bleachers will be set up so that the trophy games can be watched by all who are
interested. That time moves quickly. After the playoffs, everyone is in the cafeteria for a program that features
another message from Bro. Ferrell. After the program we have a buffet style banquet prepared and the trophies are
handed out. In addition to the individual trophies already mentioned, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place trophies
for sportsmanship and competition. We don't know how many teams we will have this year. We are expecting around 40.
